The next election for Cowra Shire Council will be held on Saturday 4 September 2021.

Local Government elections in New South Wales are usually held every four years. However, the elections planned for 2020 were postponed for 12 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Cowra and Weddin Shires Candidate Election Briefing

This free introductory two-hour session is essential for all potential candidates in the Cowra Shire and Weddin Shire who are considering standing for election, to understand what being a councillor entails. This briefing provides participants with an understanding of the role of the councillor and how it fits in with other roles and levels of government. Participants will discuss the expectations and potential challenges and identify key elements of council meetings - including code of conduct, code of meeting practice and conflict of interest.

Cowra Shire Council invites local women to attend a free information forum designed to support women interested in becoming a Councillor prior to the NSW Local Government election on 4 September 2021.

This forum will cover the current climate across NSW in local government, providing a snapshot of female representation and the steps involved in running as a candidate for local government. It will also involve discussion of the experiences of councillors in the ALGWA executive from all walks of life.
