The latest round of Cowra Shire Council’s Community Grants Program has seen another 21community organisations benefit from $20,646.56 worth of funding.

Groups from Gooloogong, Woodstock and Morongla as well as Cowra, have been recipients of funding through the initiative which has been driven by Cowra Shire Council for the past eight years.

The program, which has run over 16 rounds and funded 332 projects, has donated a total of $363,983.34 for community groups so far and has been advantageous for many clubs and associations particularly after the challenges of the past few years that included a global pandemic and then floods.

Mayor Bill West said the Cowra community was grateful to have such a wonderful array of organisations.

“The grants have been vital for these parties to continue to operate and help with the replacement of items, purchase of new stock or running of their organisations especially since the floods last year,” said Mayor West.

“It makes a difference to these groups whether it be a replacement gas stove for RDA Cowra Centre, signage at the Cowra Showground for the Cowra Campdraft and Rodeo Association or specialized fundraising events like the Woodstock and District Progress Association quiz night at the Woodstock Soldiers Memorial Hall.”

Mayor West’s sentiments were echoed by many worthy recipients at the presentation last month including David Porter, President of Cowra Triathlon Club Inc., who was extremely happy with their donation.

“We lost a fair bit during the floods so the funding from Cowra Shire is extremely important and we are very appreciative,” Mr. Porter said.

“It was a disrupted season last season and we missed out on a number of races which forced us to hold events without a swimming leg because the pool was out of action,” he said.

“The floods also meant we couldn’t serve food as we had no fridge and this funding will now allow us to replace it so we can serve ice cold drinks and food through the triathlon summer season.”

Some of the other recipients in this round of funding included Woodstock Memorial Show Inc. who received $987 to assist in the purchase of three EFTPOS terminals to be used at the Woodstock Showground, Cowra Uniting Church Food Hall who’s $1000 will go towards a defibrillator and Gooloogong Recreational Ground Committee with $472.96 to support the purchase of a portable sound system and vinyl advertising banners.
