Council also announced that Councillor Sharon D’Elboux has been appointed as the Chair of the CBD Committee, bringing her extensive experience and dedication to the forefront of this crucial initiative. Councillor Paul Smith has been appointed as the Deputy Chair, further enhancing the leadership team.

We have had a great response from our local businesses and community and I would like to thank everyone for applying,” said Cr D’Elboux. “I look forward to working with the newly appointed committee discussing the issues regarding the decline of the CBD and retail businesses. This is not only occurring in Cowra CBD, but around Australia,” she said. “As Chairperson of the Committee I am excited to explore this issue, find feasible solutions and report back to council.” Cowra Shire Mayor Bill West echoed Cr D’Elboux’s comments. “There were many worthy nominees though I think we have a good balance and cross section of people to take this important matter forward,” said Mayor West. “As Cr D’Elboux stated, CBD’s and retail are struggling across the Australian landscape but despite that Council is keen to understand the issues, engage with community, manage expectations and make a positive impact.”

The CBD Committee will operate as a driving force behind the identification of revitalisation projects that aim to stimulate economic growth, enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of the CBD, and create a welcoming environment for both residents and visitors.

Together, we will strive to create a thriving, attractive, and sustainable business hub that will benefit the entire community,” said Cr D’Elboux.
