Cowra Pound saves injured Staffy

The Cowra Pound has been busier than usual of late as the sad reality of homing and caring for pets becomes too much for some with many surrendering animals to the local pound. But it doesn’t have to be this way according to Cowra Council Director for Environmental Services, Larissa Hackett, who is encouraging current and prospective pet owners to make sure they are equipped to look after any new adopted furry friends.
We do our best to support and rehome every animal that comes through the shelter and obviously we try to give every animal a chance,” said Larissa.
Just recently we had an injured Staffordshire Terrier named Princess come through here,” Larissa said.
Council received a call on Friday 23 June advising that the dog was roaming the street. Council’s senior Ranger collected the dog and took it to our pound. The dog was microchipped but we were unable to get in contact with the identified owner of the dog.”
The dog had significant swelling on the left side of her face compelling Council to act to reduce its discomfort.
Council’s Senior Ranger took her to the vet and upon examination we were advised that she would require surgery. Further calls to the owner went unanswered and messages were not returned. As the dog was in discomfort it was determined that surgery should be undertaken to address the issue as soon as possible,” Ms Hackett said.
She had to undergo surgery for an abscess which council facilitated, several days later the owners came forward and she was surrendered over to us. Once she recovers we just need to find her a suitable home though already there is genuine interest in taking Princess on as a family companion which we couldn’t be happier about!”
For Pound Assistant, Tisharna Charnock, Princess would make an ideal family companion.
She’s a beautiful, gentle natured dog like most Staffy breeds,” said Tisharna.
“I have no doubt she will be a great addition to any family looking for a loyal family pet!”
