The economic diversity of industries in Cowra and district provides substantial opportunities for growth as well as encouraging new enterprise to the region. Cowra is fortunate in having a number of larger innovative industries which employ 30 or more staff. Local businesses Sarajane Furniture and Breakout Abattoirs each employ 100 or more staff with future plans for expansion. Geronimo and K Line agricultural equipment, Chernco Engineering, Kerry Foods, Central Milling, Fred Fahey Aerial Services, Council, The Sale Yards, and the NSW Health & Education Departments are also large employers in the district. Innovative local firm, Brumby Aviation, based at Cowra Airport designs, manufactures and builds Australia's only full-metal CASA- approved piston aircraft. A recent deal between Brumby and AVIC in China will see the local manufacturer export an order of 280 planes to China and also establish pilot training facilities in Cowra. Brumby Takes Off !!

 

Agriculture is traditionally very important to Cowra's regional economy with recent growth in industries including dairy, piggeries, and vegetable propagation. Irrigated wheat, canola, oats, and livestock have also grown. Broad-acre cropping opportunities exist with potential for the establishment of feedlots and other intensive-farming initiatives.

 

Cowra is centrally located to markets in Canberra and Sydney, and is mid-way between Brisbane and Melbourne with ready access to the Hume Highway via Boorowa and Gundagai to access Albury Wodonga.
