The Archibird Prize is a native bird photo competition held in the Cowra Region NSW run by Cowra Council’s 355 committee, the Cowra Natural Resource Management Advisory Committee (NRM) and in collaboration with Mid Lachlan Landcare, Cowra Woodland Birds and Central Tablelands Local Land Services.

The Archibird was launched in 2019 and is run in October aligned with National Bird Week.

Spring is the perfect time of year to connect with nature and snap some amazing pics of our native birds; go for a walk through your local park; get up and close to nature and go for a bush walk through the many beautiful national parks and forests in the area; or simply sit and watch the birds visiting and making a home in your backyard.

We hope you all love and appreciate birds as much as we do. Birds are incredible creatures that play an essential part in our ecosystem;

  • Birds help to disperse seeds and are fantastic pollinators, keeping your garden and nature fertile and healthy, and helping to shape the plant life we see around us.

  • They are natural pest controllers and predators, helping to maintain the delicate balance between plant and herbivore, predator and prey.

  • They are natures messengers that tell us about the health of the planet, as they respond quickly to changes in the environment.

  • And not to mention, birds are majestic, funny and beautiful.

There are some great prizes up for grabs, including; cash prizes, framed prints and more. The winner's photos will be printed and displayed alongside a Waterbird Breeding Spectacular photography exhibition being held by the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder at the Japanese Gardens Cowra at from 1-8 November 2023, for more details go to: Waterbird Breeding Spectacular
