Mayor of Cowra, Cr Bill West is yet to hear from the local federal member for Riverina, Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. Michael McCormack MP, requesting a representative of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) visit Cowra and speak to the Council and the Cowra Access Committee about the concerns of the community.
“My letter was sent on November 27 2018 and to this day we are yet to hear a response from Mr McCormack or the current sitting Ministers,” said Cr West.
Councils’ request is consistent, with a resolution adopted this week by the National General Assembly of Local Government expressing their concern regarding the current NDIS funding arrangements and calling on both the Government and the Opposition to review the scheme to make it more attractive and beneficial to providers.
Concerns about the NDIS have also been raised by the Cowra Special Needs Services and the Cowra Information & Neighbourhood Centre with Council and the Cowra Access Committee continuing to advocate on their behalf.
“I understand that the Federal Government recently announced the Hon. Stuart Robert MP, as the new Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme,” Cr West said.
“We hope Mr Robert will give us a chance and hear us out, and send an NDIS representative on his behalf to talk to Council and the Cowra Access Committee,” Cr West concluded.
