Cowra Shire Council has recently purchased the car park located behind the Lachlan Hotel, to secure the availability of parking spaces for public use. This is consistent with Council’s commitment to ensuring off-street parking is regularly available to the public.
The purchase includes the laneway which runs adjacent to the Hotel, enabling drivers to park their car and have easy access to Kendal Street. The purchase does not include the car park directly behind Target, which is privately owned and currently leased to Target Australia.
“The purchase of the Lachlan Hotel car park will allow Council to improve the parking facilities as well as renovate the laneway to turn it into a well-designed pedestrian thoroughfare. We hope to work with the owners of the Target building to redesign and redevelop both parking lots to improve capacity and ensure the safety of users and their vehicles,” said Cowra Mayor, Cr Bill West.
“While there is no planned date at this stage when redevelopment will begin, Council are looking forward to working closely with the Target building owners over the coming years.
“Council is confident that our Shire residents will be happy with the security of additional long-term, off-street parking in our town centre,” Cr West concluded.
