Cowra set to host another great Australia Day with a touch of romance!

There's plenty to celebrate this Australia Day in Cowra with a range of activities to suit everyone and the opportunity to meet prolific and award winning author and 'Queen of Romance', Valerie Parv AM, our 2019 Australia Day Ambassador!

Everyone is welcome at a free community breakfast from 8.15am at the Cowra Civic Centre hosted by the Rotary Club and Inner Wheel of Cowra, before supporting our local nominees at the 8.45am Australia Day Service for the presentation of the Australia Day Awards and School Literary Awards. The ceremony will be followed by the Inner Wheel Club's annual Australia Day Cake for morning tea at 10.30am at the Civic Centre.

One of Australia's most successful authors, Valerie Parv AM will be this year's special guest at the Australia Day Service and said she loves serving as an Ambassador in regional communities.

"Having the chance to talk about, not 200 years but 60,000 years of Australian history, reminding all of us that the First Australians celebrated their experiences and stories exactly as we do today," she said.

"It's a unique privilege to honour all Australians as part of the oldest civilisation on Earth."

Valerie was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for significant service to the arts as a prolific author, role model and mentor. An Australian Society of Authors Medal recipient, Valerie's books have sold more than 34 million copies and have been translated into 29 languages. Valerie holds a Master of Arts from Queensland University of Technology and is the only Australian author to receive a Pioneer Award from RT Book Reviews, New York.

The Cowra Aquatic Centre will be bustling with activity this year also, with free entry all day, a giant inflatable in the water, rock climbing wall and pool disco with DJ Dale W.

The fun will continue at annual sporting events around town, including the Australia Day Bowls Mixed Pairs, the Australia Day Golf Competition and the Australia Day Tennis evening. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, drop by Bryant Park to check out the antique vehicle display during the afternoon.
