With work now underway on the Valley View Estate subdivision, Cowra Council reinforces their plans to preserve and protect the important Aboriginal heritage in the area.
"Council has worked closely with the local Aboriginal community over the last 10 years to ensure the important Aboriginal heritage items indentified in the Peace Precinct area are preserved," said Cowra Mayor, Cr Bill West.
"Extensive community consultation about how best to preserve the important Aboriginal culture of the area commenced back in 2010 with the development of the Cowra Peace Precinct Master Plan.
This consultation has continued throughout the ensuing years. The Development Application underway for the residential development has a significantly reduced footprint and reflects Council's intent to preserve Aboriginal heritage in the area. Identified scar trees in the area have been fenced off for protection and returned to the Peace Precinct," Cr West said.
"Discussions have also taken place regarding the establishment of an Aboriginal cultural appreciation project in the Peace Precinct, with concept designs presented to the community in 2015. Council will continue to engage the local community on this proposal over the next 12 months," Cr West concluded.
