It's the grant program that keeps on giving; Cowra Shire community groups in need of new equipment or improvements to a building can now apply for Cowra Council's Community Grants Program!
Round Two of the $50,000 Cowra Community Grants Scheme 2017–18 opens on Thursday, February 1 and eligible individuals and community groups have until Wednesday, February 28 to lodge their applications.
"The Grants program shows Council's commitment to local volunteer groups in the community; it is a tangible, concrete way of providing financial support to organisations otherwise relying on raffles, street stalls, and donations to fund their vital services," Cowra Council General Manager, Paul Devery said.
In recent years, the Grants program has supported dozens of local sports, community and cultural groups with help in purchasing equipment, signage, publications, building and infrastructure, natural resource management, and small capital equipment.
In a change from previous Grants rounds, the criteria for the program has been tweaked to place greater emphasis on the good works of local volunteer groups in Cowra.
"Groups applying must be not-for-profit, primarily volunteer-run and based in Cowra Shire, with projects that directly benefit the local community.
"If you have some worthwhile project that Council can support, don't hesitate to contact us and find out if you are eligible, you have nothing to lose," Mr Devery said.
Successful applicants in the most recent round in November last year were for a variety of important local projects including $545 to the Cowra Historical Society for printing Cowra heritage walk brochures, $2000 to the Woodstock Soldiers Memorial Trust for a master plan for the Park, and $670 for sporting equipment for Cowra Little Athletics.
Applicants that were successful in the most recent round of the Community Grants Program are able to apply again under this round, provided they have submitted their acquittal report. Applicants are eligible to receive up to a total value of $3000 in grant funds per financial year. Application forms and guidelines are available at Council's website: www.cowracouncil.com.au and at Council's front desk at 116 Kendal St, Cowra.
