Community Grants awarded to support worthy local groups

Another successful round of Cowra Council’s Community Grants program has seen more than $26,000 presented to worthy local groups in Cowra this week.

Grants funded under Round 2 of the 2019/2020 Program were for a variety of important local projects including the purchase of administration equipment for the 200 Army Cadet Unit Cowra, assistance to purchase a new PA system for the Morongla Show Society, a first aid course for members of the Cowra & District Horse Trail Riding Club, assistance to purchase a defibrillator for the Cowra Arts and Craft Society and assistance to purchase new timers for the Cowra Amateur Swimming Club.

“While this year Council is unable to hold a face-to-face presentation to celebrate the work of these hard working local community groups, I would take this opportunity to thank and congratulate the recipients for their important role in looking after the wellbeing of our community,” Mayor of Cowra, Cr Bill West said.

This round there were 27 applications in total. Of those, 23 applications were approved totalling $26,094.80.

The Cowra Council twice-yearly Community Grants Program provides funding to a maximum value of $3000 per financial year to local not-for-profit and primarily volunteer-run based community groups within the Cowra Shire. Now in its tenth round, Council have provided community groups with funding for 205 projects since the programs commencement in August 2015 totalling $228,073.

Applicants are able to apply for grants falling under five categories including building and facility development, arts and culture, small capital equipment, natural resource management and sport and recreation. The next round of community grant applications will open August 2020.
